John May, O.D.

John May, O.D.

John May, O.D. graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with two majors: one in art history, the other in biology. He earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the State University of New York College of Optometry, completing clinical rotations at Montefiore Medical Center and the West Haven VA Medical Center. Dr. May then finished a residency in primary eye care and geriatric optometry at the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center. His responsibilities included clinical instruction of students from the Southern California College of Optometry, lectures and organizing grand rounds.

 

After this residency, Dr. May joined the Los Angeles County Southwest Area Health Centers, providing patient care with an emphasis on diabetic eye exams and glaucoma screening. He is also an assistant professor within the Department of Ophthalmology at Martin Luther King / Drew University Medical Center where he teaches in the areas of optics and contact lenses.

 

Dr. May is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the American Telemedicine Association and a consultant for the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education.
