Time to Throw Away Your Reading Glasses?
There are many myths regarding LASIK, one of which is, “if I have LASIK I’ll need reading glasses.” Not only can most people expect to read without glasses following LASIK, we can often even help those who already require reading glasses. Dr. Assil has invented a proven method of performing LASIK, which allows our patients freedom from reading glasses. He refers to the technique as Photopic Pupillometry-Guided (or Fine Focus) LASIK (Published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in February, 2008). With this approach, after performing LASIK on one or both eyes, patients are able to see at all distances. Unlike Monovision, where one eye can see clearly at distance, while the other is for reading, or CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) which only provides temporary relief, Fine Focus LASIK enables our patients to read, work on the computer and drive without glasses. This technique takes advantage of the fact that each individual’s pupil size is unique and customizes the corneal shape accordingly. Thus, the near eye also sees better at intermediate and at distance than it would with Monovision.
Fine Focus LASIK can even help some patients that have previously had traditional LASIK, PRK or cataract surgery, by eliminating their need for reading glasses. When properly performed, LASIK is proven safer than contact lenses and can free you from all those reading glasses scattered around the home and office. Additionally, it will keep you from looking over the tops of your readers to see who just walked in.
We are excited and proud to have developed another vision advancing procedure, which has helped LASIK “come of age.” Unlike cosmetic surgical procedures, all of which change how the world sees us, these LASIK procedures change how we see the world; and nothing feels better than that.
All of our LASIK procedures are designed to minimize side effects such as dry eyes and halos. For example, using the “Custom-Tailored” All Laser LASIK method, we can customize not only the size of the flap but also the position, the shape and the thickness of the flap. This approach allows many patients who have been told they are not good candidates for LASIK, to now have “Custom-Tailored” All Laser LASIK. If you have been told your pupils are too large or your corneas are too thin or too dry, there may now be help for you.
The Assil Eye Institute offers a complimentary “Custom-Tailored” consultation with Dr. Assil to determine whether you are a candidate. During this consultation you will receive state of the art no touch computerized imaging of your eyes and will have all of your questions answered. We invite you to visit the Assil Eye Institute and put yourself in the hands of people who care.
