A Message From Dr. Assil

“Reflecting on Valentine’s Day reminds me how blessed we are that over the years we have been privileged to have so many friends and family referred to us as patients. It is the greatest honor to be asked to care for someone by their loved ones.”

-Dr. Kerry Assil and the staff of

EYES ON EDUCATION

The Assil Eye Institute is dedicated to teaching young people about their vision.  On Thursday, January 27th, AEI hosted a group of students from the Carlthorp School for an evening of fun and education with Los Angeles Lakers, Shannon Brown and Steve Blake, and Cheerleaders, Melissa, Dara, Erica and Jessica.

The youngsters, who ranged in age from 4 to 14, and their parents, were treated to autographs and photos with the Players and Cheerleaders.  The evening was filled with fun activities, including a Science Tour, “Workings of the Human Eye,” which demonstrated different aspects of vision.  Dr. Assil led one of the tours for Carlthorp Head of School Dee Menzies, and the Lakers players and Cheerleaders.  At one station on the tour, Dr. Assil explained how “DELIT” helps patients with dry eyes.

At other stops, students were able to look right inside each other’s eyes through the Slit Lamp; a microscope with a light attached.  There was a Lakers Face painting station, a delicious Mexican buffet dinner, a balloon artist and a caricature artist.  Upstairs, in the Roxbury Auditorium, the students and their parents saw a video explaining the different parts of the eye, and some of the high-tech ways surgeons help patients attain great eyesight. It was an entertaining and educational evening for students and parents alike!

LASIK after CATARACT Surgery

Many patients ask if they can still have LASIK after they have had surgery to remove their cataracts.  Dr. Assil says “yes.” But, with the new Premium, Multifocal intraocular lenses and ORange Technology which allows him to take a picture of the patient’s eye in “real time” during surgery, fewer patients need LASIK “touch ups” to achieve excellent reading and distance vision. Patients who have had previous LASIK surgery can also have surgery to remove their cataracts and Dr. Assil will select the right lens for their needs, as well.
